Would you like to travel to north of France and eat cuisines that are from the local gastropubs, bistros, and bouchons? I do! When we walked into pike place’s Cafe Campagne, it felt like it.
We were all hungry but some of us ordered the 3 course meal and some of us ordered the main dishes. To start my friends got the Pate De Campagne, which was Country-Style Pork and Chicken Liver Pate Served with Traditional Accompaniments. We all really liked this appetizer, it was the best! We also tried green beans Marinated with Lemon Vinaigrette and Shallots, Topped with Grilled Bacon – Haricots Verts en Salade. The green beans were very crispy and sauteed perfectly. It was accompanied well by the crispy bacon. For the main courses, Moules Mariniéres is what I ordered. I felt like eating steamed Mediterranean Mussels. The broth had Shallots, Cucumber, Fennel, White Wine, & Lemon. I didn’t smell any mussels and it was a very healthy dish. My friend H ordered the Confit de Cuisse de Canard. Preserved Duck Leg Served on Crushed Potatoes with Natural Jus. The portion was so tiny but the duck was very crispy and potatoes were soft. I think it might have been simmered in the natural Jus.
Coq au Vin is a very famous dish from French Cuisine. At Cafe Campagne it was prepared with red wine Braised with Bacon, Pearl Onions and Button Mushrooms. It came with noodles and didn’t seem like a stew but more grilled chicken with red wine sauce. Lastly, P got the Poulet Roti which was half pan roasted chicken stewed with potatoes and vegetables. Very hearty and the biggest in portion of the night.
Finally for dessert, we got the Chocolate Terrine and Clafoutis. The Chocolate Terrine was like big log piece of truffle with orange sauce and almonds around as a garnish. As usual buttery chocolate taste and liked the orange sauce with it. For the other dessert, I really liked the Clafoutis. It was pear tart/pie with ice cream. The dessert was soft like souffles but also had hard edges like tarts. So delicious.
Overall Cafe Campagne had certain food that was better then other but the service was super slow. Hope they staff up in the future.
