Some of the best food finds involving driving distances and conforming to a restaurant’s hours. It may not be convenient for you, but a great find makes it worth all the effort. Bobby’s Hawaiian Style Restaurant is located off of Highwayy 99 in Everett with another location further in Everett. The small shack of a restaurant closes at 8pm, making the journey sometimes a pain through Seattle’s rush hour. The cold and rain of the Pacific Northwest, still has a large population of Hawai’i transplants- giving us a great selection of island grindz.
My island buddies and I endure the drive for Bobby’s generous portions and flavors of home. It’s a simple place that doesn’t seat too many people, but it’s never too crowded around dinner time. I hear the pidgin come out in my friends and the waitress, who seems to always remember us no matter how long its been. The family platters are huge helpings, but for decent price. Individually, I would recommend the combo- allowing you to chose two items and enjoy more variety. The mochiko chicken is my favorite- crunchy, sweet, and not heavy with batter or grease. While some may prefer katsu sauce, its flavor is great on its own. The kalbi ribs are sweeter than your average Korean ribs, but I really like the BBQ Chicken. The flavors resemble teriyaki, but sweeter. The char on the chicken complements the moist chicken thigh, giving it multiple enjoyable textures. The classic Kahlua pork is moist, salty, and just a reminder of wonderful home cooking.
Enjoy the mac salad and if you are lucky, you’ll get a piece of the haupia or guava cake before it’s sold out for the day (I’ve never had a slice). I may be making Bobby’s more complicated then it really is, the point is- it’s worth the drive for the great simple and warming food.
